Laura Powell

Since 2007, Laura Powell has dedicated her clinical skills to the treatment of orofacial myofunctional, articulation and voice disorders in patients of all ages. Her professional successes have granted her the opportunity to present at various events sponsored by dental associations, including the Columbia Dental Society, the Missouri Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Dental Hygiene Study Club. She has also presented at the Missouri Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention and Voice Symposiums.

Laura is a graduate of Fontbonne University, where she earned a Master of Science in Communication Disorders. Since then, she’s put her passion and specialized skillset to work in private practices, outpatient clinics, otolaryngology clinics, early childhood intervention sites and public schools. Currently, Laura is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM), the American Academy of Private Practice in Speech Pathology and Audiology (AAPPSPA), and the Missouri Speech-Language Hearing Association (MSHA).

The only certified orofacial myologist in the mid-Missouri area and a founding member of the Missouri State Orofacial Myology Association (MOSOMA), Laura has performed the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial myofunctional disorders, pediatric feeding aversion, noxious oral habits, apraxia, receptive language disorders, expressive language disorders, articulation disorders, pragmatic language disorders, cognitive-communication deficits, aphasia and voice disorders (including paradoxical vocal cord movement disorder).

Like many of her neighbors and patients, Laura grew up in Columbia, Missouri. She currently lives nearby with her husband and daughters, Madalyn and Emma.
