About

Teresa Nicolia is a speech pathologist specializing in orofacial myofunctional therapy. In 2013, she moved to Alaska in pursuit of adventure and personal growth. She began working for the school district and became interested in oral motor patterns and craniofacial development. Passionate about continuing education, Teresa flew to Canada and attended training orofacial myofunctional disorders. At that time, there was no one in the state of Alaska focusing their practice in this area of specialty.

Although she had no formal business training, in 2014 at 28 years old, Teresa started her business. Her goal was to remain true to her vision: impact quality of life. Since then, she has been learning how to run a business and providing speech and myofunctional therapy to children in their homes in North Pole and Fairbanks, Alaska. In addition to operating her practice, Orofacial Therapy of Alaska, she continues to work with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District and The Alaska Center for Children and Adults.

Teresa remains persistent through the gradual process of developing a knowledge base and growing the practice of myofunctional therapy in the state of Alaska. She believes in the long-term impact of establishing nasal breathing and the treatment of orofacial myofunctional disorders. When she is not working, Teresa enjoys hiking, kayaking, camping, and exploring Alaska with
her husband and dog.
